Meet Mordecai
Rescued January 20, 2008
Mordecai was rescued from a "killer buyer". He was actually moved to the pen where they were going to load him onto to a trailer the same afternoon that we rescued him. Judging by his size he is about 175-200 pounds under weight. His temperment is so gentle and kind. He is very respectful and enjoys being groomed. His hooves are a mess and his teeth need a lot of work too! We know it wont take any time at all to get him back in shape. He is such a gentle giant!
Mordecai's hooves!

Lyra
Rescued January 20, 2008
Lyra is an absolute sweetheart! This beautiful strawberry roan is suffering from malnutrition. She is about 125 pounds under weight and on her way to a horrible place. However, her real troubles are due to lack of hoof care. She has an old injury to her back left hoof. None of this stopped her from struting her stuff once we introduced her to the new herd. Our best guess right now is that she is around 18 years old. Her teeth are so bad that she has sores inside the cheeks. She LUVS to be groomed.

Joey and Thresa standing with a Hockey Star. Thank you for granting us the money to build a place for our kids to cool off in the summer.

Killians Red (More pictures to come)
We want to tell you about a 2 year old quarter horse named Killian’s Red who is being fostered by a wonderful woman, Sue Bass. Killian came from a feed lot in Nevada, where he was destined to be loaded onto a truck to Mexico to slaughter. Killian arrived with a broken nose and a great fear of humans. Killy tries very hard to trust and has made great progress in this area. His emotional healing has begun but his physical healing will require more help.
Dr. Robinson and Dr. Ray of Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Centre, here in Gilbert, AZ, were called out to look at Killian’s injured nose, which was infected. They took radiographs which were reviewed by their surgeon, Dr. Howard. Killian has two holes present over the bridge of his nose. It was determined that the holes, which are draining tracts, are likely due to sequestrum (dead bone fragment) of a fractured segment of the nasal bone. They recommend surgical removal of the fragment as the chronic infection is unlikely to resolve with antibiotic treatment only. This surgery is necessary for him to find his FOREVER HOME!
The estimated cost provided by Dr. Rick Howard for surgical removal of the nasal bone sequestrum, overnight hospitalization and antibiotics is $1800-$2200.
Your tax deductible donation can be made by going to Paypal.com and type in Joey Ogburn’s e-mail address, which is joey@luvshackranch.org. Please specify that this donation is for Killian’s Surgery and include your address for a receipt. We are so grateful to all of you for any assistance you can give. Please forward this information to anyone you can think of who may wish to help a horse in need and make an end-of-year tax deductible donation.
Making Friends is a so important! Here is Remington and Cecil showing the LUV!!

We were asked by Top Dog Eileen Proctor to become super stars on her new web tv show, Furvently Speaking. The episode shot at Luv Shack is now the featured show on FURvently Speaking, available 24/7 on www.PetsWebTV.com. It sure does tell a lot about horse love, horse care, and horse rescue in a mere 16 minutes! Please take a look at our show!
Also, note that we accidently mentioned that Mickey Moose was one of our rescues. He was rescued for sure, by Robert and Georgie. Thank you for allowing us to feature him on our Web TV show!
