Volunteer Orientations (Summer and Fall)
Tuesday and Thursday:
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Saturday
6:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Please arrive promptly at the beginning of the orientation so that you don't miss any of the information.
We need volunteer help every morning and evening but ask that you continue to attend supervised orientations until you are comfortable enough with the animals and routines to work unsupervised. Due to the nature of the work that we do, it is always possible that we will be called away from the ranch.
Volunteer Hours: (Summer and Fall)
Monday - Friday
7:00am- 10:00am
Volunteer Hours: (Summer and Fall)

5:00pm-9:00pm
Saturday
6:00am - 10:00am (mostly children)
5:00pm- 7:00pm
Sunday the ranch is closed as it is the one day that Ms. Joey reserves for her family. However, the chores still need to be done and we are always looking for responsible, horse savvy people to help take care of the ranch. If you would like to volunteer on a Sunday, please first attend as many supervised sessions as necessary to feel comfortable enough to work without direction. There is no supervision on Sundays and so all volunteers must be 18 and older or accompanied by their parent the entire time of their stay.
Sunday
7:00am - 10:00am
5:00pm - 7:00pm
We recommend that you come with:
Lots of Sunscreen
A hat and sunglasses
A water bottle with your name on it
Closed toe shoes that can get dirty
Jeans (recommended though not required)
A BIG Smile!
Who is welcome? Any volunteer who wants to help out at the ranch and with the horses. However, if you are 10 years old or younger, we do require that you have a parent or guardian with you at all times. Kids this is a great way to get any volunteer hours you may need for school and other projects. Not only will you have fun while getting your goals, you get to make all kinds of friends too!
What will you do? There is ALWAYS so much to do at the Luv Shack. Each session we start off with caring for the horses. And then we move on to various projects depending on what needs to be done including:
- grooming
- building projects
- art projects
- ground keeping projects
- and much much more!
What will you learn? This is an excellent opportunity to learn about horses from experienced horse handlers:
- how to care for horses
- how to feed horses
- how horses communicate with both other horses and people
- how to administer various forms of medications and medical attention
- herd dynamics
- the responsibility and the reward of caring for horses
