Places in our Hearts
The ones that we have loved and lost...

Sammy

This was a really hard one to let go. We had Sammy for four years and he was a volunteer favorite. At thirty seven years old, Joey knew that Sam's time was coming to an end but she always believed that he would let her know when it was time. That time came in July when it became too painful for him to walk .

Chloe

This beautiful girl had to be put down in August. The "horse tripping" injuries that she had suffered before she came to us finally became too much for her to take. When she lay down one day and couldn't get up, Joey knew that it might be time to let her go. She called our vet, Dr. Sickler to get her opinion and she agreed. The volunteers had some time to say goodbye and we held her as she left us. She is in a much better place but we miss her!

Saying goodbye.

Rowan

We lost our little red headed girl to colic early in September. Her foster dad, Harry walked her for hours to try to save her but she didn't make it. She leaves behind many broken hearts but especially those of Harry and her best friend, Sonny Walter.

Shirley

Shirley was an Angora goat who came to us after she was dumped in the desert by someone who had apparently used her for roping and severely injured her back end. They must have decided to let coyotes finish the job. After a thorough exam by Dr. Sickler, it was discovered that  her spine was broken in two places and her ligaments were pulled from her hocks. She was unable to use her hind legs and dragged herself around. Though we would have done anything to save her, Dr. Sickler said that she was in too much pain. We knew that we had to put her down. Shirley was with us less than 48 hours but the impression that she left on our hearts will be forever. That was one sweet goat.
